Four Life-Saving Tips for the Hottest Months of the Year!
July 16, 2020
July and August are by far the hottest months of summer! With the hottest months ahead, your pool is about to become the hot spot for all ages! While the water is an excellent place to cool off and forget about the heat, here are four tips to ensure that everyone stays safe during these smoldering months!
Water
“Water, water everywhere and not a drop to drink!”-Samuel Taylor Coleridge.
This popular quote should not be the theme at any of your future pool parties! Make sure that the occupants of your pool have plenty of fresh water to keep them well hydrated! Staying hydrated is one of the most effective ways to prevent heat stroke from occurring!
Sunscreen
Did you know that sunscreen is only fully effective when it has been applied between 15-30 minutes before entering the water? It’s true! A quick application before jumping into your pool will not ensure that your precious little ones will not burn! Continue to apply every two hours after the first application, even if it’s water approved sunscreen!
Know your body
Your age can have a lot to do with how long you can handle the heat of the day. Know your body and keep in mind how it reacts to too much sun! Younger children are unable to tell you how much is too much, so keep a close eye on them and watch for signs of overheating. And like the younger generation, as you grow older your body is unable to stand the high heat for very long. Take breaks in the shade and continue to drink plenty of water.
Pool covers
Now, I know you are wondering what in the world pool covers have to do with hot weather safety tips, but the fact is they have a lot to do with it! Did you know that 76% of drownings in the U.S. were children aged 5 and under? Water is a magnet for young children and unwelcome critters during the hot temps and having a pool cover can prevent drowning! Not only that but having a pool cover can help cut down your water and chemical bills as well! So, you are not only saving the life of your kids and animals but you will have more green in your pocket!
